Christmas MarketsT’is the season to eat, shop and be merry – and if you happen to be in one of these five cities, don’t miss the festive bazaar.


Munich Christmas Market at Kaufinger Strasse near the Franuenkirche

Date: Until December 24

Time: Monday – Saturday 10am-9pm; Sunday 10am-8pm; December 24 10am-2pm

What’s there: Traditional Bavarian and unique Christmas gifts such as wood carvings from Obermmergau, gingerbread from Nuremberg and exquisite glassware from the Bavarian Forest; daily alpine Christmas Market concert from the balcony of Munich’s town hall; arts and crafts workshops for children aged 6-12; and Christmas cookies and leukuchen.


Columbus Circle Holiday Market

Date: Until December 24

Time: Monday – Saturday 10am-8pm; Sunday 10am-7pm

What’s there: Some 100 local artisans selling goods and hand-made items; many handmade wooden puzzles, gingerbread houses and kits, handcrafted house accessories are available; and food-wise, maple pecan pies, pumpkin dark chocolate swirl pies, jam, pretzels and sweets.


Christmas Market on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées to the Place de la Concorde

Date: Until January 5

Time: Daily from 10am – 11pm; Fridays and Saturdays until midnight

What’s there Plenty of wooden chalets, handmade items, decorations, jewellery and accessories; rides for children, an outdoor ice-skating rink, christmas shows and live concerts.


Paddington Twilight Christmas Market at 395 Oxford Street, Paddington

Date: For one day only on December 19

Time: 4pm-9pm

What’s there: A range of stalls


Solamachi Christmas Market at Tokyo SkyTree, 4/F Sky Areana

Date: Until December 25

Time: 11am-10pm

What’s there: Wooden stalls with vendors offering holiday accessories; and booths serving mulled wine, beer and German sausages.
