Silk Air tests wireless inflight entertainment

Singapore Airlines’ regional wing Silk Air has begun testing a wireless inflight entertainment system on one of its Airbus A320 aircraft, which will be rotated on different routes.

Through the system passengers can stream movies, TV programmes and music directly on their personal devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones for free while onboard, in addition to the airlines’ existing overhead entertainment system.

“This initiative was introduced based on feedback from customers who wanted access to more inflight entertainment options on our flights,” said Leslie Thng, Silk Air’s chief executive.

He added that upon successful trail Silk Air will introduce the wireless system across the rest of the fleet over 2014.
